“It’s Brandon Max” isn’t just his name, it’s a Pittsburgh-area man’s TikTok grip. The 20-year-old grew up in Fox Chapel and now has over 2.5 million subscribers on the growing social media platform. Brandon Max started posting silly 15-second videos with his dad in 2019. The comedic duo made a video about the glories of a grilled cheese sandwich that went viral. A few weeks after this video, Brandon Max had a million followers and was verified on TikTok. Brandon Max works at Klavon’s ice cream shop on the Pittsburgh Strip as a social media coordinator. The store just created a sundae called Brandon Max. Ten percent of the proceeds from the sundae go to neuroimmune.org, a nonprofit that advocates for people with neuroimmune diseases just like Brandon Max. As a child, Brandon had a strep infection that led to neuroimmunity issues throughout his life. He says his passion for spreading kindness and laughing on TikTok has helped him overcome the isolation he felt growing up with health issues that kept him from going to school and others. Brandon Max wants those scrolling social media to have a laugh or two, and not see endless posts of filtered images of people of perfect appearance. He wants to make sure his followers feel comfortable being exactly who they are.
