Match day updates

50 ′ – Wow, a nice play by Dixon and Wharton but Cicerone just doesn’t have enough power on tap. Charlotte’s player returns to eliminate him. Most of the USL’s 2nd top scorer games would. Just one of those nights.

47 ′ – Vitiello has been the player of the match so far. Can a Riverhounds fielder now be that guy for the second half? Always 0-0.

45 ′ – Griffin places Dixon just before the end of the half. Dixon just misses.

The dogs came out flat. Lots of ball chase and little creation on the wings.

34 ′ – Cicerone with a nice hit on the sidelines in a 1v1 with Fuche then got a foul. The free kick is crossed by Forbes and the ball comes out at Dixon’s feet. His shot goes directly into the hands of Pack.

29 ′ – Forbes passes one to Dover who gets a corner. The dogs do not gain anything from the corner. I felt like Forbes should have shot there.

21 ′ – Now Johnson and Obertan almost score for Charlotte in one minute. Vitiello keeping this 0-0 scoreless.

18 ′ – Marveaux almost scored again. This time, a big stop by Vitiello to make a corner.

14 ′ – Just an impression, but I have the impression that in the second half, Dover and Armstrong will be replaced. Need more attack on the wings than I have noticed so far. Maybe Williamson will come out and move Cicerone to the wing. Rovira and Perez are also good options.

10 ′ – Martinez the captain now almost scores. The attacker was right inside but his shot went past Vitiello. Hounds do not hot start.

8 ′ – Parra with a nice shot on Williams. Pittsburgh is doing well to defend in the box on the clock and clear.

5 ′ – Cicerone called offside. Now I hear Bob Lilley on the show. As the Hounds turn and defend the other way, he yells, “Too easy, too easy, it’s too easy.”

4 ′ – An excellent combination game from Charlotte almost gives them the lead. Marveaux misses a pass with his left foot in a goal type 6, passes right next to it. He’ll want that one.

1 ′ – The game begins. Charlotte in their white and black uniforms. Riverhounds are in black and gold.

Look for the lineups to post here near kick-off and we’ll provide in-game updates as well as a post-match recap here on the Gameday blog.

Preview / Recent coverage of Riverhounds SC on PSN

In this week’s diary, we described the SC Riverhounds’ struggles against Charlotte over the years. So far, in three matches in 2021, the Hounds have gone 1-2 against Independence, with all three matches being decided by scores of 1-0.

Hounds Notebook: The Montour complex should be completed by spring 2022

Here are some more “quick shots”, as this game should be a tough test for the Hounds.

In all three games played between the two teams, Charlotte won in Pittsburgh on May 22 and at home on August 14, while the Hounds beat Charlotte – ending a 12-game winless streak against Independence – on 3 July in Pittsburgh.

The Hounds’ six-game unbeaten streak, a 4-0-2 streak, is tied for the team’s longest period this season with the period July 3 through August 6, when they went 5-0. -1.

Forward Russell Cicerone remains the only second-place possession in the USL Championship scoring race with 14 goals to his name after a skillful end of strike last Saturday against Loudoun. It was his first goal in three September matches after scoring six in August to finish third in the votes for the USL Championship Player of the Month.

Midfielder / striker Alex Dixon continues to be an overall threat to the game with eight goals and seven assists. The Hounds have never had a player with a 10-goal, 10-assists season; closest to doing so was Kevin Kerr with 10 goals and nine assists in 2015.

We featured Dixon earlier this week on PSN:
