India reports 1.49 Lakh new Covid cases, positivity rate drops to 9.2%

Since December, the number of Covid cases has been increasing rapidly due to the new Omicron variant. India’s active caseload currently stands at 14,35,569.

There have been 1,072 Covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours. India’s death toll from COVID-19 passed 500,000 today.

Kerala, with less than 3% of India’s 1.35 billion people, accounts for nearly 11% of the total number of reported deaths in the country.

In recent months, several states have updated death counts, some under pressure from the Supreme Court. In most cases, authorities said there were shortcomings due to late registrations and other administrative errors.

2,46,674 recoveries have been recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries in India to 4,00,17,088.

India’s daily positivity rate rose from 11% to 9.27% ​​today. The positivity rate is the number of people who test positive out of 100 tests performed. The weekly positivity rate dropped to 12.03%.

India conducted 16,11,666 Covid tests in the last 24 hours.

Active cases account for 3.42 percent of the total number of infections, while the national COVID-19 cure rate has fallen to 95.39 percent, the health ministry said.

Mumbai reported 827 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, a day after daily cases in the city passed the 1,000 mark.

Delhi yesterday reported 2,668 new cases of COVID-19 and 13 deaths, while the positivity rate fell to 4.3%.
