Deputy FM attends Mexican Independence Day celebrations; 1000 Greek families in the country ask for educational resources
Greek Deputy Foreign Minister for Greeks Abroad Andreas Katsaniotis represented the Greek Prime Minister during the celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the independence of Mexico aI had the opportunity to meet members of the Greek community in the country.
The approximately 1,000 Greek families living in Mexico City have made a formal request to Mr. Katsaniotis to guarantee educational and linguistic resources in Greek.
Katsaniotis informed representatives of the Greek community about the initiatives of the Greek government in the field of education and referred them to the innovative platform staellinika.com, which was launched by the General Secretariat of Hellenes Abroad, with the contribution from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Center for Greek Studies at Simon Fraser University.
The Deputy Foreign Minister indicated that he had had the honor of meeting with the great professor of modern Greek language and ambassador of Hellenism in Mexico and Cuba, Natalia Moreleon and the distinguished sculptor Gogy Farias Nikolopoulou .
In Mexico City, Katsaniotis was received by President Andrés Manuel López Odrador and separately met his counterpart Carmen Moreno Toscano, Culture Minister Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum and several ministers and representatives from other countries.
